THE CITY AND THE HEART SHOWCASE AT THE BITTER END

The City & The Heart presents; NYC Indie Woman in Music Showcase to benefit Safe Horizon at The Bitter End.

TC&TH was founded in 2013 by Singer/songwriter Meghann Wright to curate a supportive community for NYC’s emerging independent female singer/songwriters; The organization is now over 30 artists strong. Download TC&TH’s inaugural compilation record featuring 19 artists’ original music for free here.

The beneficiary for this amazing fundraiser was Safe Horizon, which is the largest victims’ service agency in the United States, touching the lives of over 250,000 children, adults, and families affected by crime and abuse in NYC each year. To learn more or for help please visit their site.

Now on to the music which was diverse and plentiful. Lauren Diamond took to the legendary Bitter End stage first with her smoky and breathy vocals, she pulled me right in and was enamored instantly with this unreleased song. Immediately following was Lindsay Dunphy, who was all smiles and with a slight country flair, performed a handful of seemingly uplifting tunes. Next up was Breanna Bryan who brought a guitarist and percussionist with her that added plenty of depth to her strong voice, intelligent lyrics and keyboard playing.

By this point of the night, the venue was full of loud talkers and folks that wanted to party, after all it was a Saturday night on Bleeker street.  That didn’t stop Elli Espi from performing a beautiful set of incredibly deep and meaningful songs sometimes with an island flair that quieted most. Around 9:00, Mary Mettias from Vine Leaf, stepped up and showed her versatility. Mary was joined by an electric guitarist who dropped subtle notes over her almost dreamlike vocals and own guitar to create a lush landscape of awesomeness.

Last, but certainly not least, was event organizer and all around super-woman – Meghann Wright. Meghann instantly blew me away with her soulful and strong voice who at times reminded me of Janis Joplin. She was joined by an amazing electric guitarist and a percussionist that gave the performance a rich and dynamic sound. Meghann has many styles as shown in the rollicking “Cocaine” and the contrasting love song “Left My Heart in Brooklyn” which can please any music fan.

All in all, it was great event, with beautiful and talented woman and all for an amazing cause!
