JOSE GONZALEZ PLAYS THE MUSIC HALL OF WILLIAMSBURG

“Don’t you know that I’ll be around to guide you through your weakest moments to leave them behind you. Returning nightmares, only shadows, we’ll cast some light and you’ll be alright for now,” Jose Gonzalez serenaded a spellbound crowd at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on Wednesday night.

A master of folk-pop minimalism, Gonzalez played a straight 90-minute set with almost no conversational interlude, flowing between older songs off Veneer (2003) and In Our Nature (2007) to his most recent album, a solo project entitled Vestiges & Claws.

Gonzalez’s collection of tender and earnest lullabies was accentuated by haunting harmonies and the rustic accompaniment of his backing band. Overall, the show had a calming, almost ethereal quality.
