PANCAKE PICKS: THE BEST SHOWS OF THE WEEK FOR 5-9-16

Hey all you music and whiskey lovers! We’ve got your best shows of the week all picked out in our Pancake Picks below (and whiskey is strongly encouraged). Hey all you pancake lovers who were expecting a recipe instead of this article – fuck that, go check out these great shows!

Monday

Tegan and Sara @ Le Poisson Rouge – Yep, Tegan and Sara are in town! And they’ve brought 3 Juno awards and a Grammy nomination along with them. They released their brand new single, “100x,” just a few days ago, so it’s a great time to catch this impressive indie pop duo at Le Poisson Rouge tonight.

Black Lips + Hank Wood & the Hammerheads @ MHOW – Black Lips are bringing their beloved Atlanta-brewed garage rock to the Music Hall of Williamsburg (they’re the ones who gave us that awesome “Bad Kids” song, among other great stuff). Joining them will be the self-proclaimed “NYC garage mutants,” Hank Wood & the Hammerheads.

Tuesday

Crystal Fighters @ The Bowery Ballroom – English electronic/folk outfit Crystal Fighters are heading to the Bowery Ballroom this Tuesday, and their many fans are stoked. While you’ll probably hear a variety of cool stuff from them, we can bet there will be some serious Cave Rave going down.

Wednesday

The Revivalists + Museyroom @ Brooklyn Bowl – New Orleans’ rock and soul 7-piece, The Revivalists, are taking over Brooklyn Bowl this Wednesday, and you just know it’s gonna be a party. Opening are the 3-piece, New York/Philly pop hybrid, Museyroom.

Thursday

Fruit Bats @ Rough Trade – Fresh off the release of their latest single, “Humbug Mountain Song,” the eclectic and ever-changing Fruit Bats will be hitting Rough Trade this Wednesday. The folk-pop group’s bandleader, Eric Johnson, has been doing his thing since the mid-90s and is sure to bring a good set.

Låpsley @ MHOW (second show added) – Don’t worry – if you didn’t catch tickets to Låpsley on Wednesday, a second show has now been added “due to overwhelming demand” (get it, girl!). The English singer-songwriter just recently released a Dark0 remix of “Falling Short” – and you’ll likely get to hear her popular “Hurt Me” and “Love is Blind” this Thursday.

Friday

Rogue Wave @ The Bowery Ballroom – That’s right – the indie pop force that played with Spoon and Mates of State are playing the Bowery, just after releasing their newest full-length, Delusions of Grand Fur. You can still win tickets to Rogue Wave this Friday, and it’s one you won’t want to miss (but they’re also playing MHOW on Saturday if you do!).

X Ambassadors @ Terminal 5 – We got a chance to see X Ambassadors play last year’s SummerStage, and man, was it worth it. Their dark and soulful pop recently landed them a spot on the soundtrack for Me Before You, and their single “Unsteady,” was just released coming out of it. Don’t miss them at Terminal 5 this Friday.

Saturday

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard @ The Bowery Ballroom – Ohhhh, yes. This is happening. The psychotic-psychedelic rock of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is going to be exploding within the Bowery Ballroom on Saturday night. If you don’t know why we’re freaking out, check out our review of their mind-blowing, infinitely-looping new album, Nonagon Infinity (see also: past coverage from the last Gizz show we survived!).

Sunday

Land of Talk + Little Scream @ The Bowery Ballroom – You can catch Canadian indie rockers Land of Talk at the Bowery this Sunday, who are known for their punk roots and late-90s influences. And there’s a good little lineup in store with guest Little Scream, aka Laurel Sprengelmeyer, who was recently featured on the Red Hot Organization’s Grateful Dead compilation album, Day of the Dead. Have a killer week, kids!
