SECRET WEAPONS STEAL THE SHOW AT THE BOWERY BALLROOM

It’s always nice to see young bands grow and with the trajectory Secret Weapons are on right now, it’s only a matter of time before they are a household name. Having interviewed Gerry and Danny in May of 2015, we were treated to an inside look of an “odd couple” who were just starting to gain momentum as an indie-pop band known for their after-parties. Fast forward a little over a year and the band is now signed to Epic records, have released their first EP, and is touring with some big names including Phoebe Ryan.

I got to the venue real early to get a good spot to take photos and was amazed at the amount of Phoebe Ryan fans already lined up, dying their hair green and singing Ryan’s songs en masse – immediately I wondered how they’d react to the openers. Having only thirty-minutes to get their point across, the band came out with all cylinders firing and within a few minutes, had the fairly packed ballroom dancing around to their infectious grooves. Seeing the Phoebe Ryan fans collectively lose their minds over the first band of the night, was a reminder that they really have what it takes to take this to the next level.

Secret Weapons played most of their new EP and some standout tracks were “Something New,” “Konichiwild,” and an Epic take of the powerful tune, “Perfect World.” Having listened to their new EP beforehand, I was pretty much blown away in how they performed the new songs live and now view them as one of the better live dance-bands out there.
