Saturday night at SummerStage was a rainy mess. Puddles were dispersed throughout the field and the crowd was littered with umbrellas and ponchos. But a little rain didn’t stop the crowd from showing up and getting excited about Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
Rising indie pop songstress Empress Of opened up for UMO that night belting out pretty vocals over a mixture of booming and dainty electric beats. Favorite songs of hers included “How Do You Do It” and “Everything is You.” She’s definitely going to be playing pretty often through my headphones for quite some time in the near future.
UMO stepped out onto the stage under a glow of red – a photographer’s worst nightmare but appealing to the human eye – they looked like the rock stars they are. They opened with my favorite UMO song, “From the Sun” off their album II. The band played a selection of songs of each of their albums with the majority coming from their 2015 album, Multi-Love.
Frontman Ruban Nielson showed some loved to the dripping wet audience by climbing into the crowd and getting as close up and personal as he could get with his devoted fans.
