An underground rap soiree went down Wednesday night at Irving Plaza. The venue was sold out for the album release party for Post Malone’s first full-length album, Stoney. After a series of DJ sessions and guest appearances, Post Malone took the stage surrounded by friends and collaborators.
The Dallas rapper, Austin Richard Post was propelled to stardom by his 2015 hit “White Iverson,” which now has over 200,000,000 Spotify plays. Since then he has amassed a huge social media following and many die-hard fans were in attendance that night. In between songs like “Congratulations” and “Fuck,” Post was shaking fans’ hands and pouring out Bud Light in honor of those that have passed, like Atlanta rapper Bankroll Fresh and Prince.
Post had the entire crowd bouncing as he tore across the stage rapping and delivering anecdotes. The rapper’s style is quite unique. He is the guy that likes to share stories and charm the audience. His music is more melodic than traditional hip-hop and it carries an underlying rock tone. And what other rapper would sample Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams?”
Post Malone has already collaborated with Justin Bieber, 2 Chainz, Jeremih, Ty Dolla $ign and Kanye West during his short career. And it doesn’t look like he’ll stop there. Post has stated that he wants to continue experimenting with music, and even become a country singer. We look forward to seeing what he brings in the future.
