PANCAKE PICKS: THE BEST SHOWS OF THE WEEK FOR 1-16-18

If your New Year’s resolution involved seeing more concerts, then, no excuses – you’ve got places to be this week! Catch the best shows happening around NYC using our Pancake Picks below.

Tuesday

Adiós Ghost @ Baby’s All Right – Make your way over to Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn tonight to get a taste of Adiós Ghost. The local indie rockers – whose single was stuck in our heads after we premiered it last year – will be performing songs from their latest record, Fade Out With Your Phantoms, joined by openers Swimsuit Issue and Palm Springsteen.

Charlie Rauh @ Rockwood Stage 1 – Charlie Rauh, who you may know as the guitarist from Single Girl, Married Girl, is playing a solo show at Rockwood tonight, and it’s sure to be a technically-impressive one. He’ll be performing work from his recent release, Viriditas, as well as some brand new songs over on stage 1.

Wednesday

Narc Twain, Fort Gorgeous @ Mercury Lounge – Mercury Lounge is the place to be for Brooklyn-brewed indie rock this Wednesday night, because both Narc Twain and Fort Gorgeous will be performing in the Lower East Side digs. The show starts at 6:30pm and tickets are on sale here.

Collie Buddz, Jo Mersa Marley, The Holdup @ The Bowery Ballroom – Reggae lovers should run or find a ride to The Bowery Ballroom on Wednesday night, where Collie Buddz, Jo Mersa Marley (grandson of Bob Marley), and The Holdup will be jamming. And in case you can’t make it (or decide you need a second dose), the same lineup will be playing there on Thursday too.

Thursday

Krystle Warren @ Rough Trade – Paris-based folk/indie songwriter Krystle Warren is fresh off the release of her latest record, 2017’s Three the Hard Way, and bringing its blues-infused tunes to Brooklyn this week. Plan your Thursday night around a Rough Trade trip to take in her latest work.

Friday

Uni, Blame Candy, Hnry Flwr @ The Knitting Factory – Based upon past experience, you might get to witness a massive live snake slithering around their frontman’s body – and that’s not even what makes Uni such a must-see band. The feisty glam rockers have an awesome sound and stage presence, and will be playing Knitting Factory with Blame Candy and Hnry Flwr this Friday. You can grab tickets here.

Glen Hansard @ Town Hall – Irish songwriter, singer, and guitarist Glen Hansard – who is part of both The Frames and The Swell Season, and toured with Eddie Vedder in 2011 – is making a trip over to the Big Apple, so it’s your chance to soak up his incredible talent live. If you can’t make it out to Town Hall this Friday, you’re in luck, because he’s playing two more NY dates: Sunday at Brooklyn Steel (1/21) and the following Monday at Rough Trade (1/22).

Saturday

Slick Rick’s 8th Annual Birthday Celebration @ Brooklyn Bowl – We had a killer time at Slick Rick’s annual birthday bash last year, so we’d urge you to clear your calendar for this year’s festivities. Enter to win tickets here so you can celebrate The Ruler’s special day at Brooklyn Bowl this Saturday night with DJ Kaos and the Slickettes.

Yumi Zouma @ Baby’s All Right – Yumi Zouma – the New Zealand electropop group who just put out a generous full-length album, Willowbank, less than a year after their debut LP, Yoncalla – are playing Baby’s All Right this Saturday night. They’ll be joined by openers Colin and Katie Garcia.

Sunday

Flobots, Tropidelic @ Rough Trade – Rough Trade welcomes a sweet lineup this Sunday, with none other than Denver hip-hop alt-rockers Flobots and reggae/funk/jam band Tropidelic taking the small stage in Brooklyn. You can enter to win a pair of free tickets to the show here.
