FEMME FATALE THROWS A SPACE-COWGIRL RAGER NYE PARTY

The dark and romantic basement of Lower East Side staple, Home Sweet Home was transformed on New Year’s Eve into a neon intergalactic dance party.  The room quickly filled to capacity with costumed party goers who full heartedly embraced the space cowgirl theme. Femme Fatale, is a monthly party brought to you by High Waisted front woman, DJ and nightlife impresario, Jessica Louise Dye. This girl knows how to host a party and leaves a trail of confetti in her wake as seen here.  Ubiquitous scene rockers Bloodless MGMT helped curated the bands for this sold out show. Dancing under a sea of pastel balloons, Femme Fatale evokes the glory of club kid nights at Limelight and the infamous Missshapes party of the 00’s.

Opening the night was four-piece garage rock newbies Razor Braids. With catchy upbeat songs and dreamy harmonies, they had the room dancing along to classic surf beats. Lead singer Hollye Byrum sang with great power and ended their set moshing and summersaulting in the crowd.

Modern Whale produced a massive wall of infectious pop music with intricate guitar solos and unrelinquishing beats made it darn near impossible for the audience to stop dancing. Lead singer and guitarist Robbie Guargilia is mesmerizing.  He’s overflowing with talent.

Beechwood never disappoint.  They are the epitome of downtown cool.  Channeling 1970’s rock ‘n’ roll on a stage of backlit haze, their silhouettes moved rhythmically and frantically as the crowd grew more rambunctious in anticipation of the countdown to New Years.

DJ Jessica Louise Dye and DJ Meow Devin kept to the party’s theme, filling the room with tracks like “Space Jam,” “Will Smith’s “Wild Wild West” and “Old Town Road” as everyone’s excitement boiled towards ball drop.

Cowboy hats and glow sticks in hand, the room chanted down to midnight. There was an explosion of cheers and confetti. Jonny Couch and band ripped right into their set after all the “Happy New Year” kisses were completed.  With balloons cascading from the stage to the mosh pit, inflatable aliens surfing on top of the sweaty crowd, fog and haze billowing out from the stage, Couch’s new wave tunes were just what the rowdy room of cowboys and space creatures wanted.

Party goers enjoyed free White Claw Spiked Seltzer while chasing each other around the dance floor with light up bubble guns.  DJ Joel Rosado closed out the night with an Italo Disco set that was out of this world. There was crowd surfing. There were sing alongs. There was even line dancing. The room stayed packed and sloppy until last call at 4:00 am.  If this is any indication of what’s in store for Femme Fatale’s upcoming parties in 2020, were consenting to the hangovers now. The next party is first Friday, February 7th, 2020 at Home Sweet Home and its theme is leopard and lace. Tickets available now. Free late night entry after midnight with RSVP.
